“Trabajadoras” or “Women at Work” was created for #Aptitudes, a cultural sector of the Ayuntamiento de La Rambla (City Government of La Rambla) in the pueblo of La Rambla, Córdoba, Spain. La Rambla is a village in southern Spain known for its “alfarería” or pottery. The mural celebrates the women who make up the backbone of the industry there, yet are often overlooked as essential to the local economy. It features them at various stages of work, and showcases some of the signature pottery shapes and colors (bright blue and terra cotta) that are specific to the village and the Córdoba region. Additional colors reflect the surrounding landscape, the Spanish sun, and even the colors of the Spanish flag (red and yellow). The project also aims to bring high level art projects to the people of the countryside, to share culture and beauty equally with non-urban dwellers. The mural is located in the Jardines de Andalucía, a recently renovated park in the village.
